INTERNAL FUNCTIONING OF THE COURT
Rule 22
Ordinary Sessions
1. The Court shall hold four ordinary sessions per annum, each of which shall
last for at least four (4) weeks.
2. The sessions of the Court shall be held on the dates set by the Court during its
previous session. Under exceptional circumstances, the President may, in
consultation with the other Members of the Court, change the dates of a session.
3. The President shall send the invitation to Judges at least thirty (30) calendar days
before the session is held. The invitation letter shall indicate the dates, agenda,
duration and venue of the session as well as any other relevant information.
Rule 23
Extraordinary Sessions
1. Extraordinary sessions may be convened by the President on his/her own initiative
or at the request of a majority of the Judges.
2. The President shall send the invitation to Judges at least fifteen (15) calendar days
before the session is held. The invitation letter shall indicate the dates, agenda,
duration and venue of the session as well as any other relevant information.
Rule 24
Holding of Sessions
The sessions shall take place at the Seat of the Court. However, the Court may,
pursuant to Article 25 (1) of the Protocol, decide to sit in the territory of any other
Member State of the African Union, or in exceptional circumstances or force
majeure, hold a Virtual Session.
