Part One eT SNe OBS CHAPTER I STATUS AND COMPOSITION CHAPTER II MEMBERSHIP Rule3 Status Rule 5 Term of office The African Commission is an autonomous treaty body working within the framework of the African Union to promote human and peoples’ rights and ensure their protection in Africa. 1. Members of the Commission are elected for six years and shall be eligible for re-election. Rule 4 1. If a member of the Commission is re-elected at the expiry of his or her term of office, or elected to replace a member whose term of office has expired or will expire, the term of office shall begin from that expiry date.
