In exercise of the powers conferred on the East African
Court of Justice by Article 42 of the Treaty for the
Establishment of the East African Community, the Court
hereby makes the following revised rules of procedure to
conform to the Treaty amendments restructuring the Court.

SECTION 1: GENERAL
1. (1) These Rules may be cited as “The East African
Court of Justice Rules of Procedure 2013” and shall come into
force on such date as the President may appoint by notice in the
Gazette.
Citation and
commencement.
(2) Nothing in these Rules shall be deemed to limit or
otherwise affect the inherent power of the Court to make such
orders as may be necessary for the ends of justice or to prevent
abuse of the process of the Court.
2. In these Rules words and expressions shall have the
meanings assigned to them respectively in the Treaty, and
unless the context otherwise requires—
“Advocate” means an advocate who is entitled to
appear before a superior court of any of the
Partner States;
“Agent” means a person that is authorised by another
to act for or in place of him;
