About the project
The African human rights case-law analyser (the CLA) was conceived as a solution to the challenges to accessing legal resources (case-law and legislation) in the African human rights system (AHRS).
The CLA is an innovative, interactive, multilingual and free-to-access online database of jurisprudence and legislation of the main mechanisms in the AHRS, notably the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, the ECOWAS Court, the East African Court of Justice and the defunct SADC Tribunal.
As a one-stop joint for resources in the AHRS, it offers the most comprehensive access to African human rights law and case law in English, French and Portuguese (with Arabic in perspective). The CLA contains case-law on the AHRS hyperlinked to all other cited cases and legislation from various international human rights systems, notably the UN, European and Inter-American human rights systems. Therefore, the CLA does not simply list decisions and instruments, but presents them as interacting and interrelated texts to facilitate research friendliness and a better understanding of the web of textual and jurisprudential interaction in the African human rights system. It allows for easy browsing experience and simultaneous consultation of instruments and mechanism cited by loading related texts and documents within the same reading pane.
