his or her duties faithfully and effectively, and to respect the confidential nature
of the information that come to his or her knowledge in the exercise of his or
her duties.
Rule 28
Internal Judicial Practice and Practice Directions
Subject to the provisions of the Protocol and the Rules, the Court shall adopt its
internal judicial practice and procedures, and shall also formulate practice
directions for parties before the Court.
PART III
JURISDICTION
Rule 29
Jurisdiction
1. Pursuant to Articles 3 and 4 of the Protocol, the Court shall have jurisdiction in
contentious cases and advisory matters. In this regard, it shall:
a) deal with all cases and disputes submitted to it concerning the interpretation
and application of the Charter, the Protocol and any other relevant human
rights instrument ratified by the States concerned;
b) render advisory opinions on any legal matter relating to the Charter or any
other relevant human rights instruments.
2. In the exercise of its contentious jurisdiction, the Court may:
a) promote amicable settlement in cases pending before it in accordance with
the provisions of the Charter and the Protocol;
b) interpret a decision rendered by itself;
c) review its own decision.
3. In the event of a dispute as to whether the Court has jurisdiction, the Court shall
decide.
