November 2020, which is the day on which the withdrawal took effect, being a period of one year after its deposit.2 II. SUBJECT OF THE APPLICATION A. Facts of the matter 3. It emerges from the record that on 2 January 2010, the Applicant allegedly murdered his stepmother by inflicting a fatal wound to her head with a machete in the context of a land dispute. The Applicant was arrested on 19 April 2011 and charged with murder. The Applicant was tried, and on 26 June 2015, convicted of murder and sentenced to death by the High Court sitting in Bukoba (Criminal Case No. 55/2014). 4. The Applicant then appealed to the Court of Appeal sitting at Bukoba (Criminal Appeal No. 313/2015) which, on 23 February 2016, dismissed the appeal in its entirety. B. Alleged violations 5. The Applicant alleges violation of the following rights: i. The right to equality before the law and to equal protection of the law under Article 3(1) and (2) of the Charter. ii. The right to life, guaranteed under Article 4 of the Charter. iii. The right to dignity, guaranteed under Article 5 of the Charter. iv.
