22 58.9. On July 30, 1992, Maritza Urrutia was liberated near the building of the Office of the Attorney General in Guatemala City. Following the precise instructions of her abductors and under threat of death, she went to the offices of Acisclo Valladares, the Attorney General, who received her personally in his office and took her to the Fifth Criminal Trial Court so that she could request amnesty based on Decree 32-88 of the Congress of the Republic. There, she signed an act in which she claimed the amnesty before the corresponding judge, who never asked her about what had happened. Subsequently, Maritza Urrutia returned to the Office of the Attorney General and, following the instructions of her captors, gave a press conference in which she confirmed the content of the video;39 58.10. Maritza Urrutia then went with her family to a safe place, under the protection of the Guatemalan Archdiocesan Human Rights Office;40 58.11. On August 7, 1992, Maritza Urrutia left Guatemala for the United States, because of the fear of attempts on her life. Then she went to Mexico, where she was given refugee status and where she lived for six consecutive years;41 Regarding the measures taken by the next of kin of Maritza Urrutia and the investigation conducted by the organs of the State 58.12. When he heard about his daughter’s disappearance, Edmundo Urrutia Castellanos, father of Maritza Urrutia, filed the respective complaints before the competent national bodies, such as the Office of the Ombudsman and the National Police;42 39 Cf.
