Article 7: Election of judges
- Paragraph 1
The Judges shall be elected by the Executive Council, and appointed by the Assembly. - Paragraph 2
They shall be elected through secret ballot by a two-thirds majority of Member States with voting rights, from among the candidates provided for in Article 6 of this Statute. - Paragraph 3
Candidates who obtain the two-thirds majority and the highest number of votes shall be elected. However, if several rounds of election are required, the candidates with the least number of votes shall withdraw. - Paragraph 4
The Assembly shall ensure that in the Court as a whole there is equitable representation of the regions and the principal legal traditions of the Continent. - Paragraph 5
In the election of the Judges, the Assembly shall ensure that there is equitable gender representation.
