Article 51: Intervention in a Case concerning the Interpretation of Other Treaties


  • Paragraph 1
    Whenever the question is that of interpretation of other treaties ratified by Member States other than the parties to a dispute, the Registrar shall notify all such States and the organs of the Union forthwith.

  • Paragraph 2
    Every State Party and organ of the Union so notified has the right to intervene in the proceedings, and if it exercises this right, the interpretation given by the judgment shall be equally binding upon it.

  • Paragraph 3
    This Article shall not be applicable to cases relating to alleged violations of a human or peoples’ right, submitted by virtue of Articles 29 or 30 of the present Statute.
